Dubai is a modern, cosmopolitan and international city, with a reputation for excellent hotels and extremely high standards. Dubai blends ancient and palatial style architecture with -modern and stylish high rise towers, the modern often echoing the old by using traditional Arabian motifs. Dubai is also duty-free which makes it an excellent place to shop, with the choice of over 40 new shopping malls or the fascinating traditional Arab souks, the most famous being the gold souk, but there are also textile, perfume and spice and food souks in the narrow passageways. ![]() Dubai Abras Dubai is bisected by Dubai Creek, where the abras (water taxis) ferry people across the water. The Creek as well as dividing the city is also a major part in Dubai's long history of trading Dubai's soft golden beaches lie along the Jumeriah coastline and a variety of water-sports can be enjoyed in the warm and tranquil waters of the Persian Gulf. For golfers there is the Dubai Creek Golf Club. Dubai is also close to the desert with its ever shifting sand dunes, camel racing, wadi-driving, dune driving and sand skiing all being popular desert activities. |
